Is high-pressure cleaning safe for roofs?

Yes, when done correctly. We adjust pressure and technique to the surface: lower pressure with surface cleaners for older tiles, and stronger settings for concrete. This removes moss and lichen, which retain moisture and degrade roofing, without stripping protective coatings.

Frequently Asked Questions

High-pressure cleaning can be used on roofs, driveways, paths, walls, and patios to remove dirt, grime, moss, and other debris.

Yes, our team uses the appropriate pressure to clean without damaging your roof. High-pressure cleaning is safe for both tile and metal roofs when done by professionals.

We recommend high-pressure cleaning every 12-18 months, depending on the level of dirt and grime accumulation in your area.

Yes. Monkeys Roofing provides free on-site quotes across Sydney. We inspect the job, explain exactly what is needed and send a written quote, usually within 24 hours of the visit. Call 0452 223 327 or use the quote form on this page.

We cover all of Greater Sydney, including the Eastern Suburbs, Northern Beaches, North Shore, Inner West, Sutherland Shire and the Hills District. Our team is based in Bondi Beach and schedules jobs across these areas every week.

We clean tile and metal roofs, driveways, paths, retaining walls, fences and exterior walls. Pressure and technique are matched to each surface: delicate surfaces get soft washing, while concrete and pavers can take higher pressure for a deeper clean.

What people ask Google about this

These are the questions Google itself shows for this service. Here are our answers.

Is pressure washing your roof a good idea?

On concrete tile and most metal roofs, yes, done at the right pressure and angle. On terracotta, slate or an old painted roof it can strip glaze, break tiles or force water under laps. The damage usually comes from the operator, not the machine: too close, too much pressure, or spraying uphill against the direction the roof sheds water.

Can I pressure wash my roof myself?

The washing is not the risky part, the roof is. Most serious falls in NSW happen from four metres or less, which is a single-storey house, and a wet roof is the worst surface to be on. If you do it anyway, never spray upwards under the laps, and stay off terracotta and slate.

The rules this job has to meet

Australian standards and Code requirements we work to, with the source for each.

A safe work method statement applies above 2 metres

NSW work health and safety law requires a safe work method statement for construction work where a person could fall more than two metres. Single-storey gutter and roof work clears that line, which is why the job is planned, harnessed or edge-protected before anyone gets on the roof.

Most fatal falls are from 4 metres or less

SafeWork NSW reports that most serious and fatal falls happen from roofs, ladders and building edges at four metres or under, and a fall from two metres can kill. A single-storey Sydney house is squarely inside that range.

Sydney sheds about 1,213 mm of rain a year

Observatory Hill has averaged around 1,213 mm of rain a year on records kept since 1858. Everything on the roof, from panels and skylights to gutters, has to keep working through that volume of water and the grit it carries off the surface.

Usually done with this

  • Roof Painting — A washed roof is the moment to reseal it, while the surface is clean and the access is already set up.
  • Gutter Cleaning — Everything washed off the roof lands in the gutters, so they get cleared afterwards.
