Most Inner West houses were not built with a metal roof, but plenty of them have one now: the rear extension, the garage, the studio out the back, the carport, the flat roof over a kitchen addition. Those are the roofs where fasteners fail. The rubber washer hardens and splits, the head corrodes and the screw loses its seal, and because these roofs are low pitch the water does not run away from the fixing, it sits on it. The leak then shows up in the middle of a sheet with nothing visibly wrong nearby.

Because the fixing itself is the hole. Once the washer splits, water gets in at the screw and travels along the underside of the sheet before it drips, which is why the wet patch inside rarely lines up with the fault.

KLIP-LOK concealed-fix sheeting can be installed to a pitch as low as 1 degree in 0.48 mm base metal thickness, meeting AS/NZS 1562.1:2018. That is the usual answer for a flat rear extension where corrugated sheet would not comply.
Sheet metal roof and wall cladding in Australia is installed to AS/NZS 1562.1. It sets the minimum pitch, the fastening pattern and the side and end laps for each profile. Work that departs from it is what an insurer points at after a storm claim.
CUSTOM ORB corrugated profile is rated down to a minimum roof pitch of 5 degrees. Laid flatter than that, water sits in the pans instead of running off and the sheet holds moisture against the fasteners, no matter how well it is screwed down.
