It is rarely one big autumn drop here. Gutters near the water collect a slow mix of wind-blown sand, salt residue and litter off the street trees, and on the older terraces and semis the gutters are narrow to begin with, so it does not take much to slow them down. Strata blocks add a second problem: nobody notices until water comes over the top and into a unit. Guard reduces how much gets in and how often the gutter has to be cleared. It is not a licence to never look at the roof again, and we will not sell it to you as one.

No. It cuts down how much gets in and how often the gutters need clearing, which on a sandy, tree-lined street is a real difference. Fine grit and sand still get through, so the gutters should still be checked.
Some of it does. Sand is far finer than leaf litter, so guard holds back leaves much better than it holds back sand. What it does prevent is the packed leaf mat that blocks a gutter completely.
Yes, and it usually takes more coordination. Access, any scaffolding or lift, and building approval are the parts that need sorting first. We look at all of that when we quote.

The National Construction Code allows a single downpipe to serve no more than 12 metres of eaves gutter. Long unbroken runs on Sydney terraces and wide Federation frontages often sit over that limit, which is why they overflow in heavy rain even when the gutter is clean.
Observatory Hill has averaged around 1,213 mm of rain a year on records kept since 1858. A 150 square metre roof therefore sends roughly 180,000 litres a year through its gutters and downpipes, which is why a blockage shows up as overflow so quickly.
A valley gutter must be laid at more than 12.5 degrees, with at least 15 mm of freeboard and side angles of 12.5 degrees or more. Below 12.5 degrees it has to be designed as a box gutter to AS/NZS 3500.3 instead, which is a different job with different flashing.
