Panels this close to the water collect a salt film that rain does not fully wash off, and once fine wind-blown sand settles into it the surface holds a dull, gritty layer. Add bird droppings and the leaf litter that blows across from surrounding gardens, and you end up with shading across parts of the array. On flatter roof pitches, common on the newer builds around Randwick and Kingsford, there is less runoff to help, so the build-up stays put longer than it would on a steep roof.
We look over the array first and check the condition of the panels and their surrounds before cleaning anything.
We access the roof properly, which matters on tile where walking the wrong line cracks tiles and creates a leak.

We do not quote a percentage, because it depends entirely on how much build-up is there and how much of the array is affected. What we can say is that shading from grime, droppings or debris reduces what the panels produce, and clearing it removes that.
Generally yes. A salt film plus wind-blown sand builds a layer that rain alone does not shift, so panels near the water tend to need attention more often than the same array further inland.
Only where it is safe and appropriate, and with care. Tiles crack when walked incorrectly, and a cracked tile becomes a leak, so we access the roof properly rather than taking the shortest route to the array.

NSW work health and safety law requires a safe work method statement for construction work where a person could fall more than two metres. Single-storey gutter and roof work clears that line, which is why the job is planned, harnessed or edge-protected before anyone gets on the roof.

Quoting solar panel cleaning in the Eastern Suburbs is not the same job as quoting it elsewhere in Sydney. Concrete tiles are banned in Paddington: Woollahra DCP lists concrete roof tiles as intrusive and not permitted in the Paddington conservation area. Only natural slate, short-length corrugated galvanised iron or unglazed terracotta… That is the kind of detail that changes the materials, the timing and the paperwork on a roof in Bondi or the streets around it.
